Also known as Stromboli, this baked deliciousness is in fact a rolled type of pizza. You know...just like Calzones. It might in fact be the perfect alternative to pizza night, without going completely sans pizza. ;)
To make the sandwiches you see on the pictures, I used this awesome pizza dough recipe. However there's absolutely no shame in using store bought dough either, in all honesty, being busy bees as we all are nowadays, convenience foods can be of great help... specially on week days. ;)
Oh yeah, last but not least you can make bite size baked sandwiches, which makes them perfect for parties and pot lucks.
Preparation time: 30 min
Yield: 5 Sandwiches
Level: Easy Peasy
Ingredients:
- 500g Pizza dough
- 1 small onion
- 1 1/2 tbsp Butter
- 150g Smoked Ham
- 150g Brie
- 1 tbsp Chopped Parsley
- Sesame Seed
- Salt & Pepper to taste
Start by pre heating your oven at 350 F (175 C). In the meantime, slice the onion and sauté it over low heat with 1/2 tbsp of butter.
To assemble the sandwiches, divide the pizza dough in 5 equal parts. Roll each one into a smooth and thin square. Spread a bit of butter at the center of the square, sprinkle some parsley and top it with the ham, cheese and onion in it. Fold the the dough sheet over your filling, gently pressing the sides with your fingers . Place the thicker dough side at the bottom of a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cut slices on top of the sandwich and spread sesame seed on top. Optional: you can egg brush the sandwiches for an extra touch of color.
